The museum houses artifacts Gabriel Matthews Raphael collected in the late 1800's during his travels, mostly from from Scotland and France. This collection, which also includes family pieces, was donated to the Historical Society of Brownsville by Gabriel's wife and their children Alice, Angus and Claire.
