LOS EBANOS FERRY

The only  remaining  government licensed hand pulled ferry in the USA, it was first used in the late 1800's to ferry Mexican troops across the Rio Grande. In the early 1900's the ferry operated only occasionally. That all changed during the prohibition in the 1920's and 1930's, when smugglers used the ferry day and night!

In 1950, a formal inspection station was established, and it operates daily ever since. To reach the ferry you have to travel west (of Mission) on US 83 until you reach FM 886, then drive south for about three miles to the town of Los Ebanos. You will find the ferry easily, but watch out not to hit any dogs!
